What are Policy Teams?
Throughout this site, I use the term Policy Team to refer to a team whose mission includes some combination of these responsibilities:
- Craft policies around user-generated content, advertising content, creator monetization, and online retail spaces;
- Enforce the aforementioned policies at scale and respond to incidents as they arise;
- Respond to requests from government agencies or law enforcement;
- Anticipate, investigate, and mitigate threats to the integrity of the site, service, or marketplace;
- Define product policies and recommend design solutions that promote user and brand safety, protect privacy, and otherwise contribute to a safe and trustworthy user/customer/partner experience.
These teams may have names like Trust & Safety, Child Safety, Revenue Policy, Responsible Innovation, Platform Integrity, Legal Policy, Threat Intelligence, Policy Operations, or Trust Operations, just to name a few.
